Coaches who grew up on these courts
GM Tenis Academy Centre grew out of a simple belief: world-class tennis development should not require a move to a big city. We built a programme that reflects the values of this community — hard work, honest feedback and genuine care for every player's progress.

Our story
Our story in Red Deer
GM Tenis Academy Centre grew out of a simple belief: world-class tennis development should not require a move to a big city. Founded by coaches who grew up playing on Red Deer's public courts, we built a programme that reflects the values of this community — hard work, honest feedback and genuine care for every player's progress. From our first junior group sessions to our current high-performance pathway and certified coach masterclasses, everything we do is designed around the people who live and train here. We know the families, the schools and the rhythms of life in central Alberta, and that local understanding shapes how we coach, schedule and communicate.

Values
What we stand for
Data-informed coaching
Our digital stroke analysis goes beyond a coach's eye. Multi-angle video and frame-by-frame annotation give players and parents a clear, documented picture of what to work on.
Coach education that travels
Our masterclass programme brings high-level coach development to central Alberta so local coaches do not have to travel to major urban centres for quality professional development.
Whole-athlete development
Stroke technique and court fitness are developed together. Our conditioning programme is designed around tennis-specific movement so physical gains translate directly to match performance.
Community first
We run holiday camps, recreational adult groups and beginner programmes because we want tennis to be accessible to everyone in Red Deer — not just elite competitors.
How we work
How getting started works
- 1
Initial conversation
Tell us about your goals, experience level and schedule. We listen first and then recommend the programme or combination that makes the most sense for you.
- 2
Court assessment
New players complete a short on-court assessment so we can place you in the right group or design the right private plan. No pressure — it is an information-gathering session, not a test.
- 3
Programme enrolment
We confirm your place in the chosen programme, agree on the schedule and complete registration. You receive a welcome email with everything you need before your first session.
- 4
Training begins
Your first session sets the tone: coaches introduce the block's goals, establish group norms and begin skill work. Parents of juniors are welcome to watch from the designated viewing area.
- 5
Progress review
At the end of each block, players receive a written progress report and a brief coach conversation. We discuss what was achieved, what comes next and whether a programme adjustment is needed.

Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be a competitive player to train at GM Tenis Academy?
Not at all. We have programmes for complete beginners through to competitive juniors and adults. The recreational adult groups and beginner holiday camps are specifically designed for players who want to enjoy the sport without competitive pressure.
How do I register for a programme?
Contact us by phone or email and we will guide you through the process. For juniors, we recommend a brief court assessment before the first block begins so we can place your child in the right group.
Are programmes available year-round?
Yes. Our indoor courts allow us to run programmes throughout the year regardless of Alberta's weather. Holiday camps follow the school calendar for spring break, summer and winter break.
Can adults join the junior holiday camps as helpers or observers?
Camps are designed for players aged 7–16. Parents are welcome to watch from the designated viewing area but do not participate in on-court activities.
Do you offer any programmes for players with disabilities?
We are committed to making tennis accessible. Please contact us to discuss your specific situation and we will do our best to accommodate or adapt a programme to suit your needs.
Is equipment available to borrow or purchase?
Racquets are available to borrow for new players during their first two sessions at no charge. We can also advise on appropriate equipment for your level and budget.
How far in advance should I book a stroke analysis session?
We recommend booking at least one week in advance to secure your preferred time slot. Reports are delivered within 5 business days of the recording session.
Can I switch programmes mid-block if my level changes?
Level changes are assessed at the end of each block to maintain group consistency. In exceptional cases where a player is clearly misplaced, we will discuss options with you directly.
Do you serve players from outside Red Deer?
Yes. Players and coaches travel to us from Lacombe, Sylvan Lake, Blackfalds, Ponoka, Innisfail and other central Alberta communities. Most are within 40 kilometres of our facility.
What is your approach to player safety and supervision?
All GM Tenis Academy coaches hold current first aid certification and have completed background screening. Junior sessions always have at least two staff members present, and the facility is supervised throughout all programme hours.

Ready to step onto the court?
Tell us your goals and we will recommend the right programme for you.
