Private one-on-one coaching

Service description

Private lessons give players undivided coach attention for rapid technical improvement. Sessions can target a specific weakness, prepare for an upcoming competition or address findings from a digital stroke analysis. Available for juniors and adults at all levels. Packages of 5 or 10 sessions offer a reduced rate.

  1. 01

Who benefits most from one-on-one coaching

Private lessons suit players at any stage: a complete beginner who wants to build confidence before joining a group, a junior preparing for their first competitive season, or an experienced adult with a persistent technical flaw that group sessions have not resolved. The format adapts to the person, not the other way around.

If you are working toward a specific goal — a competition, a club team, a personal milestone — private coaching gives you the focused repetition and direct feedback that accelerates progress. There is no waiting for your turn and no diluting the session across multiple players.

  2. 02

How a private session is structured

Each session runs for 60 minutes with one dedicated coach. Before the block begins, your coach will discuss your goals, current strengths and the areas you most want to address. From that conversation, a personalised drill plan is built — not a generic template, but a sequence designed specifically for where you are and where you want to go.

After every session, your coach emails you a set of session notes covering what was worked on, key corrections and suggested focus points before the next lesson. That written record keeps progress visible and gives you something concrete to return to between sessions.

  3. 03

    Packages and how pricing works

A single session is CAD 95. For players who want to commit to a sustained period of development, a block of five sessions is available at CAD 440 and a block of ten sessions at CAD 840 — both representing a reduced rate compared to booking individually.

Packages are a practical choice if you have a clear goal with a timeline, such as preparing for a tournament or working through a full technical rebuild. Your coach will help you decide which option makes sense based on what you are trying to achieve and how frequently you plan to train.

  4. 04

    Flexible scheduling and coach matching

Private lessons are scheduled to suit your calendar rather than a fixed timetable. When you enquire, you can request a specific coach and we will do our best to match you based on availability. If your preferred coach is fully booked, we will suggest the next best fit and explain the reasoning so you can make an informed decision.

For cancellations, please refer to our Sales Terms for full details. As a general principle, reasonable notice allows us to offer the slot to another player — something that matters in a community where court time is genuinely valued.

  5. 05

    Integrating digital stroke analysis

Private sessions can incorporate findings from a digital stroke analysis, giving your coach objective data on your technique alongside their on-court observation. This is particularly useful when a flaw is subtle — something that feels correct but shows differently on review — or when you want a clear baseline to measure improvement against over a series of sessions.

Your coach will explain any analysis findings in plain language and translate them directly into the drills and corrections used during your sessions. The goal is always practical improvement on the court, not data for its own sake.

  6. 06

    Coaching grounded in Red Deer

GM Tenis Academy coaches are not passing through. They grew up here, they know the local competitive landscape and they understand what it means to develop a player in central Alberta — the seasonal constraints, the school and work pressures, the community context that shapes how and why people play.

That local grounding means your coach brings genuine care to every session, not just technical knowledge. Whether you are a junior taking your first proper lesson or an adult returning to the game after years away, you will be coached by someone who has stood behind the same baselines you have and understands what it takes to improve on them.

What the service includes

  • 60-minute session with one dedicated coach

How getting started works

  1. 1

    Initial conversation

Tell us about your goals, experience level and schedule. We listen first and then recommend the programme or combination that makes the most sense for you.

  2. 2

    Court assessment

New players complete a short on-court assessment so we can place you in the right group or design the right private plan. No pressure — it is an information-gathering session, not a test.

  3. 3

    Programme enrolment

We confirm your place in the chosen programme, agree on the schedule and complete registration. You receive a welcome email with everything you need before your first session.

  4. 4

    Training begins

Your first session sets the tone: coaches introduce the block's goals, establish group norms and begin skill work. Parents of juniors are welcome to watch from the designated viewing area.

  5. 5

    Progress review

At the end of each block, players receive a written progress report and a brief coach conversation. We discuss what was achieved, what comes next and whether a programme adjustment is needed.
