Service description
Our adult group lessons are designed for players who want to improve their game in a welcoming, community atmosphere. Sessions run in 8-week blocks with groups sorted by ability level — beginner, intermediate and advanced. Each session focuses on one technical theme alongside rally and point-play practice.

Who these lessons are built for
These sessions are designed for adults who want to improve steadily without the pressure of a private lesson or the randomness of casual hitting. If you are a complete beginner looking for a patient starting point, an intermediate player trying to make your rallies more consistent, or an advanced club player sharpening your game, there is a group matched to your level.
Players come from all corners of Red Deer — some have not held a racquet in years, others play socially and want more structure. What everyone shares is a willingness to work and a preference for honest, practical coaching over empty encouragement.
- 02
How the 8-week block is structured
Each block runs for eight weeks, with one 75-minute session per week. Groups are capped at eight players so every participant gets meaningful court time and coach attention. The session always opens with a focused technical theme — footwork, groundstroke shape, net approach — followed by drill progressions that build on that theme.
Every session closes with rally and point-play practice so the technical work connects immediately to real game situations. The block finishes with a social round-robin that lets you measure your progress in a relaxed, competitive setting alongside your group.
- 03
Finding your ability group
New players complete a short online questionnaire before their first block. If there is any uncertainty about the right level, we invite you to a free 20-minute court assessment — a quick hit-around that helps our coaches place you accurately rather than guessing from a form.
The three levels — beginner, intermediate and advanced — are kept distinct so sessions move at the right pace for everyone in the group. If you progress quickly during a block, your coach will note it and recommend the appropriate level for your next enrolment.
- 04
What to bring and how to prepare
Comfortable athletic clothing and court shoes with a non-marking sole are all you need. If you do not yet own a racquet, you are welcome to borrow one at no charge for your first two sessions — after that, we encourage players to use their own equipment so they can build familiarity with a consistent feel.
Come hydrated and ready to move. Sessions are active from the first minute, and the 75-minute format is designed to feel full without being exhausting. A water bottle and a willingness to try new things are the only real requirements.

From the baseline up: why group lessons work
There is something that happens when a group of adults stands behind the same baseline and works through the same drill together — accountability, a bit of friendly competition and the kind of encouragement that only comes from people who understand exactly what you are trying to do. That dynamic is built into every session we run.
GM Tenis Academy coaches grew up playing on Red Deer's public courts. They understand the rhythms of life here — work schedules, family commitments, Alberta winters — and they design blocks that fit into a real adult life rather than demanding it be rearranged around tennis.

Pricing and how to enrol
Blocks are priced by level: the beginner group starts at CAD 240 for the full eight-week block, the intermediate group at CAD 260 and the advanced group at CAD 280. All prices are per player for the complete block. Mid-block entry may be possible at a pro-rated rate depending on availability — contact us directly to check.
Enrolment opens ahead of each new block. We recommend registering early because groups fill quickly, particularly at the intermediate level. Once you are in, your spot is held for the full eight weeks and your coach will be in touch before the first session.

How getting started works
- 1
Initial conversation
Tell us about your goals, experience level and schedule. We listen first and then recommend the programme or combination that makes the most sense for you.
- 2
Court assessment
New players complete a short on-court assessment so we can place you in the right group or design the right private plan. No pressure — it is an information-gathering session, not a test.
- 3
Programme enrolment
We confirm your place in the chosen programme, agree on the schedule and complete registration. You receive a welcome email with everything you need before your first session.
- 4
Training begins
Your first session sets the tone: coaches introduce the block's goals, establish group norms and begin skill work. Parents of juniors are welcome to watch from the designated viewing area.
- 5
Progress review
At the end of each block, players receive a written progress report and a brief coach conversation. We discuss what was achieved, what comes next and whether a programme adjustment is needed.
