Service description
Designed for coaches at all certification levels, our masterclass series covers advanced pedagogy, session planning, player psychology and stroke-correction methodology. Each masterclass runs over a full weekend and combines on-court practical work with classroom discussion. Participants receive a certificate of completion and 16 hours of professional development credit applicable toward national coaching certification renewal.

Who this masterclass is for
The masterclass is open to practising coaches, aspiring coaches and physical education teachers who work with tennis players. No current coaching certification is required to attend. Whether you are early in your coaching career or an experienced practitioner looking to refresh your approach, the programme is structured to offer genuine development at every level.
Participants come from a range of backgrounds: club coaches, school PE staff, junior programme volunteers and independent coaches working in smaller communities across central Alberta. That mix of perspectives is deliberate — the classroom discussions are richer when the room brings different experiences to the table.

What the weekend covers
The masterclass runs across a full Saturday and Sunday for a total of 16 hours of structured professional development. On-court practical workshops focus on coaching methodology: how to demonstrate, correct and sequence stroke development for players at different stages. Classroom modules address player psychology and session design — the thinking behind the coaching, not just the technique.
Each topic is treated as a working problem rather than a lecture. Participants practise the methods they are learning, receive feedback from the facilitating coaches and leave with a reference handbook they can return to when they are back on their own courts.
- 03
Professional development credit and certificate
Each participant receives a certificate of completion at the end of the weekend. The 16 hours of professional development are structured to align with national coaching education framework requirements, making them applicable toward coaching certification renewal.
Participants should confirm applicability with their own certifying body, as recognition may vary depending on the certification held. The course materials and reference handbook are included, so the weekend produces both a credential and a practical resource that continues to be useful after the masterclass ends.
- 04
Group size and learning environment
Each masterclass is capped at 18 participants. That ceiling keeps the on-court practical sessions genuinely hands-on — there is enough court time and coach attention for every participant to work through the methodology rather than observe it from the sideline.
The classroom modules benefit from the same scale. Eighteen people is large enough for varied discussion and small enough for every voice to be heard. Coaches who have attended describe the format as the opposite of a conference: it is a working environment where the learning happens through doing and talking, not through sitting and listening.
- 05
Returning to your court with something real
The goal of every GM Tenis Academy masterclass is that participants leave with specific, applicable changes to how they coach — not a folder of notes that stays in the car. The combination of on-court practice, classroom discussion and the reference handbook is designed to make the transition from masterclass to coaching session as direct as possible.
GM Tenis Academy coaches built this programme from their own experience developing players in Red Deer and central Alberta. The methodology taught here is the same methodology used on these courts every week, which means it is tested, honest and grounded in the realities of coaching in a community setting rather than in an elite training centre.

Private and group bookings for clubs
Clubs or associations with a group of eight or more coaches can arrange a private masterclass on a date that suits the organisation. A custom quote is available on request. This option is particularly useful for clubs that want their entire coaching staff to develop a shared language and methodology — a consistency that players notice and benefit from immediately.
The series booking — three masterclass weekends — allows coaches to build on each weekend's learning rather than treating each session as a standalone event. Topics across the series are sequenced so that later weekends assume and extend what was covered earlier, creating a genuine arc of professional development over time.

How getting started works
- 1
Initial conversation
Tell us about your goals, experience level and schedule. We listen first and then recommend the programme or combination that makes the most sense for you.
- 2
Court assessment
New players complete a short on-court assessment so we can place you in the right group or design the right private plan. No pressure — it is an information-gathering session, not a test.
- 3
Programme enrolment
We confirm your place in the chosen programme, agree on the schedule and complete registration. You receive a welcome email with everything you need before your first session.
- 4
Training begins
Your first session sets the tone: coaches introduce the block's goals, establish group norms and begin skill work. Parents of juniors are welcome to watch from the designated viewing area.
- 5
Progress review
At the end of each block, players receive a written progress report and a brief coach conversation. We discuss what was achieved, what comes next and whether a programme adjustment is needed.
